Auto Glass Technician Trainee will undergo classroom training and will take a comprehensive exam to know the fundamentals and importance of Auto Glass Industry and as a technician. Auto Glass Technician Trainee will also have hands-on training with the Certified General and Master Technician by the Auto Glass Safety Council, NWRD and OSHA to complete independently the job or minimal supervision of auto glass repair and replacement.

Job Description – Entry-Level or Experienced

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Auto Glass Technician to join our team. Whether you’re experienced or new to the industry, we welcome applicants who are eager to learn and grow.

In this role, you will be responsible for repairing and replacing various types of automotive glass, including windshields, door glass, quarter glass, vent glass, back glass, sunroofs, side mirrors, and window regulators/motors.

Experience with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) recalibration is a plus and highly valued due to the increasing integration of technology in modern vehicles.

 

Responsibilities:
  1. Inspect windshields to determine whether the glass should be repaired or replaced.
  2. Obtain windshields or windows for specific automobile make and models from stock or warehouses and examine them for defects prior to installation.
  3.  Assessing the customer vehicles that may compromise the retention system
  4. Notifying customers prior and during the process of various issues that may affect glass installation such as rust or vehicle damage. 
  5. Document all the findings during pre-inspection and post-inspection to protect the customer through product tracking for recall or performance purposes and for your liability protection and the company.
  6. Select appropriate tools, safety equipment, and parts according to job requirements.
  7. Removing cowls, moldings, wipers, screws, bolts, and clips before glass installation and repairs and replacing them thereafter without causing any damage. 
  8. Weatherproofing glass by applying a chemical treatment to the outer surfaces and installing rubber weather seals around glass edges.
  9. Removing all dirt and debris from windshields and windows before beginning repair or weatherproofing treatments.
  10. Removing damaged glass without causing further damage to customers’ vehicles
  11. Using primer to prime all damaged areas of windshields, scratches on the pinch weld and car windows or as necessary.
  12. Allow all glass parts installed with urethane ample time to cure, taking temperature and humidity into account.
  13. Apply a bead of urethane around the perimeter of each pinch weld and dress the remaining urethane on the pinch welds so that it is of uniform level and thickness all the way around.
  14. Using clips, moldings, and adhesives to affix glass to customers’ vehicles.
  15. Install replacement glass in vehicles.
  16. Calibrate vehicle electronics such as ADAS systems, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, etc. Proficiency in using computerized diagnostic tools to complete recalibrations and trouble-shoot issues.
  17. Completing all necessary paperwork and keeping damaged glass areas moisture-free during repairs and replacement. 
  18. Keeping the working area nice and clean the same with every customer’s vehicles. 
  19.  Thoroughly educate our customers before, during and after the process. We provide detailed information to make sure customers know what happened to ensure safety and awareness.  Maintains professionalism and passion for providing outstanding customer service and exceeding customer expectations. 
  20. Provide a brief explanation or set proper expectations to make sure you and the customer are on the same page. 
  21. Obtain the customer’s signature both before and after the job is completed. The customer must be 18 years or older; if not, a legal guardian’s presence and signature are required before the service can proceed.

Windshield Repair:

  1. Communicate chip repair disclaimers to customers to ensure clear understanding and set proper expectations.
  2. Injecting resin into small chips or cracks and heating the damaged areas using a heat source aiming to minimize further spreading of the crack.
  3. Check for moisture or contamination in damaged areas, dry out any moisture prior to making repairs, and keep damaged areas dry until repairs are complete.
  4. Make sure the finished repair is flush with the glass.
  5. Inspect the finished repair.

Mobile Technicians: 

  1. Minimum 2 years auto glass installs experience
  2. Traveling to various locations to assess as well as repair or replace customers’ windshields and windows.
  3. Utilize various tools and scanning equipment, complete documentation of repair orders on mobile devices.
  4. Receiving payment from mobile customers
  5. Keep inventory of the glass, tools, and materials to maintain in the company vehicle
  6. The driving duties will be monitored through the use of cameras, GPS, and other tracking technologies to ensure safety and compliance.

Physical requirement of the job, including, but not limited to:

  • Ability to lift and carry 75 lbs. or more for short periods multiple times a day
  • Maintain adequate range of motion in upper extremities (shoulder, arm, wrist and elbow)
  • Requires motion entailing bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, stretching and continuous bilateral use of fingers and wrists.
  • Remain on your feet for extended periods of time, elevated heights and going up and down the customer’s vehicle to complete a specific task.
  • Ability to locate the right parts for the vehicle in stock and proper and safe use 

of step ladder.

  • Ability to safely work outside (in a wide variety of weather conditions and extreme temperatures) for extended periods
  • Maintain a professional appearance

Commitment to SAFETY:

Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all equipment, including but not limited to safety glasses, cut and vibration resistant gloves, uniform, approved footwear, arm sleeves, nitrile gloves and earplugs while working with IQ® Auto Glass™

  • Safely handle variety of hand tools, power tools, sharp tools safely and effectively working with and around hazardous chemicals. Adhere on the proper use, storage and disposal of such materials. 

Commitment to Safe Driving and Use of Company Vehicles:

  • The ability to operate a commercial vehicle safely and courteously, adhering to all company policies and procedures relating to safety. This includes obeying all traffic laws and regulations and maintaining a valid driver’s license with a driving record that falls within the company requirements.
  • Using the Company vehicles only during business hours and driving it from point A to point B based on parts pickup and delivery or customer’s location and back to the physical shop provided by the expected allotted time for the job and mileage.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the assigned company vehicle before, during and after usage. It must be car washed at least once or twice a month. 
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in accordance with all federal, state and local laws and agreement to be monitored via in-cab vehicle safety camera / video surveillance technology

Company is not liable for the following regarding company vehicles: 

  • Paying fines employees receive while driving company vehicles they are responsible for.
  • Making bail for employees who are arrested while driving cars from the company fleet.
  • Employees will be responsible to pay half of the deductible if they got into accident guilty as charged.

Commitment to Learning:

  • Ability to remain focused and flexible with hours and days trained/worked as workload fluctuates due to frequent changes in customer and business demands.
  • Achieve near perfect attendance during the training period.
  • Read our training manual, study, and pass a multiple-choice certification exam as well as complete all training assigned within the allotted timeframe.

 

Auto Glass Technician QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Demonstrate strong mechanical skills and problem-solving skills independently and collaboratively. 
  2. Adhere to all health and safety regulations when using hazardous materials. 
  3. Effectively communicate with customers and achieve excellent customer service at all times.
  4. Ability to handle stressful situations and work in a fast-paced environment
  5. Proven experience working as an Auto Glass Technician.
  6. Sound knowledge of automotive glass repair and installation techniques.
  7. Good manual dexterity and hand-eye-ears coordination.
  8. Detail-oriented.
  9. Ability to work scheduled days, with flexibility on start and end times to accommodate customer’s needs.
  10. Ability to read, write and interpret the English language and technical directions
  11. Ability to communicate orally (via phone) and written (via computer or other electronic means)
  12. Willingness and ability to maintain stable performance under professional or personal pressure and/or opposition (e.g., time pressure and productivity measure)

 

General REQUIREMENTS:
  • Be at least 18+ years of age
  1. A Valid Driver’s License is required.
  2. Copy of clean DMV record
  3. Must be willing to do a background check, drug, test attestation of COVID-19 vaccination status, and precautions against COVID-19 in select work settings, subject to all applicable local, state and federal laws.
  4. Automotive glass installation experience is a plus
  5. Certification in automotive glass repair and installation through the AGSC, NWRD and OSHA is advantageous.
  6. Technology proficient ADAS Recalibration Certified is a plus.
